Search for the Perfect Wave

Web Designer (wireframe and mockup)

Description

A client came to SDA Creative asking to bring their book and website to life while developing assets for a marketing campaign that would launch both. Their book would be full of images but needed to use images that already had mass recognition to build a cohesive pre-order launch across print and digital platforms.

The print team worked on the creation of the three-book series, while the web team came together to design and develop an e-commerce website that could expand.

Project Overview

The Senior Web Design/Developer and I wireframed and mocked up a few designs to take to the client for review. As I was only involved in the design and not the development of this website, I will be outlining my part of the project.

Develop a responsive, customizable, e-commerce WordPress website that would allow for pre-orders and orders after print production. The website would need to be able to grow and expand as the book launched.

We had endless amounts of great photography available for use. It was the photos that were going to captivate the viewers as well as the stories that went with each on the website and in the book. I wanted to showcase photos that would entice viewers to click into the website and read more about the pre-order of this three-part book series.

Goals

  • Create a homepage and interior page that would reflect the excitement discussed in the book

Target Audience

A target audience was not exclusively outlined, but it would be those who would be searching:

  • Surf experiences
  • Surfing adventures
  • Surf stories and ledgends

This book and website would be for those of certain reading age, but not directed or targeted towards a specific group. If anyone was searching surf and waves, this book or website would be a great targeted ad.

Design Requirements

No design requirements except needing to utilize great photography. The website needed to be readable, think font size, easily navigatable, and easy to pre-order/purchase.

Requirements

  • Use photography
  • Convey excitment for the book and stories
  • Very easy to pre-order a book

Project Reflection

Project goals were achieved. The design utilized the main assets and incorporated them nicely into the marketing campaign for the pre-order launch.

Achieved

  • Create a homepage and interior page that would reflect the excitement discussed in the book. Photos and use of color helped convey this message which fits in with the site's subject matter. One-click and the user can either add the pre-order book to their cart or learn more about the book series then pre-order from there.
