Masimo Healthcare Professional Website

Web Designer

Description

When I joined Masimo the project I was initially tasked with, is the complete redesign of the Masimo Healthcare Professional website. Utilizing best practices in programming and content including creating a content story for users.

Some issues were brought up during the initial start of the project while others were discovered during the website discovery phase.

Project Overview

We quickly realized that this project would need to split into two phases, with the first phase consisting of moving the US version of the website onto a Content Management System.

The second phase of this project was dedicated to the complete redesign of the HCP website as it would set the stage for the translated sites and future growth of products and technologies within Masimo.

Phase One

  • Move website to EpiServer CMS
  • Minor updates of HTML on web pages
  • Register websites on search engines such as Bing, Yahoo, and Google Search Console
  • Server and IT updates

Phase Two

  • Develop target audience
  • Reorganize site and page navigation
  • Reorganize content and develop new content where necessary
  • Responsive
  • Optimize HTML for Google Analytics
  • Program website for long-term growth within a CMS

Goals

  • New navigation and organization
  • Determine Target Audience and tailor website
  • Consistency throughout
  • Update code and functionality into current/future standards

Target Audience

Healthcare Professional website would be marketed and written for the Healthcare Professional. While the consumer products would be discussed separately on the Personal Health website.

  • Medical IT
  • Nurses
  • Medical Professionals
  • Medical Care Solutions

Competitors

During design and website organization research I looked to Masimo's competitor websites to see how they solved or possibly didn't solve large website navigation.

  • Medtronic
  • Phillips
  • GE
  • Edwards
  • Johnson & Johnson

After much discussion, it was decided to organize the site based on Clinical Solutions, Products and Technologies thus allowing users and employees the ability to navigate directly to a specific page, no matter how one would use the site.

Design Requirements

There were few requirements as the design, functionality, and imagery needed to be pushed during development. The recently approved Brand Guideline provided colors, logo, and voice, but all other web elements were open to being changed as needed.

Requirements

  • Abide by Brand Guidelines
  • Follow predefined Target Audience
  • Use current content, but be allowed to ask for new content where necessary

Project Reflection

While some of the core project goals were achieved, many were disregarded during development leaving the launched website feeling lackluster and incomplete with no immediate plans of implementation.

Achieved

  • Responsiveness. Website viewports were sized correctly after being developed for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
  • Consistency throughout. Brand colors, as well as categories of web pages, had a consistent page template layout.
  • Update code and functionality into current/future standards. Using standard HTML practices, website and web page ranking increased on Google Analytics and Search Console. The CMS increased the easability of version control for website resources, imagery, and graphs.

Missed

  • Target Audience. No documentation during development outlining the target audience or who the website is trying to target.
  • Site Organization and Navigation. Failed to organize the website in a way that told the product story. Users are forced to link technology, product, and clinical evidence together on their own.
  • Update code and functionality into current/future standards. With plans for implementing more product and graph animations and videos, the static website never lived up to capturing and holding visitors' attention which was reflected in Google Analytics bounce rate reports.
